about us
The idea behind Anchor.
Our Story
It started with a frustrating realisation: after years of language classes, we could still barely follow a conversation between native speakers. Yet we could binge a whole series in another language and pick up more from one season than from a semester of textbooks.
That’s when it clicked. The B1/B2 plateau isn’t a motivation problem, it’s a content problem. Learners get stuck because the material is boring and far removed from real life. So we, a group of students at the University of Zurich, decided to change that.

Anchor turns the series, films and books you’d choose anyway into a way to learn. Less drilling, more watching, reading and understanding, until the language finally sticks.
01
Mission
Anchor makes learning languages less boring. We turn real series, books and films into interactive lessons, so you build vocabulary and understanding from the language people actually speak.
02
Vision
A world where nobody gets stuck at B1/B2, and where the best way to learn a language is also the most enjoyable one.
03
Values
We believe learning a language should be enjoyable, not a chore. That’s why Anchor is built on real language from the media you love, designed by students who know what it’s like to get stuck, and always honest about what works and what doesn’t.
